According to The School of Positive Psychology there is a formula for happiness. What that means to me is that ultimately I really do have complete control over how happy I am in spite of finding myself without a husband raising 3+ kids by myself.
Here is the formula:
1-Set point in the brain (do you see problems or opportunities?). You can control your set point through meditation and cognitive therapy. (42-43%)
2-Conditions of living (7-8%) This is your relationships, finances, etc.
3-Voluntary actions (50%) You can make yourself happy by going out and enjoying yourself or you can make others happy. Making others happy is the most effective and fastest way to increase your own happiness.
Pretty interesting, huh? The divorce accounts for such a small percentage of your overall happiness...food for thought.
